Getting started.
Member RedStone has taken the time to detail a number of things they learned when starting out in HomeRecording. Whether you’re a beginner or not, some of this info may be very useful to you. On the other hand, do you have your own experiences and observations to contribute? Maybe you disagree with some of the points. That’s fine too!
Recording input levels.
The question that begs a hundred more and sparks debate. They’re using the wrong microphone, their preamps don’t have enough gain, they just need an inline gain boost. They should sing louder. They should sing closer! Maybe it’s not even too low at all?
Mixing low end.
We’ve all struggled with muddy low end. So what’s the problem? Is it the room. The amp? Is it all in the fingers of the bass player, or the is it the recording gear? Maybe they’re al fine and your monitors are lying to you, or, worse yet, maybe it’s all of them!?
